Web Creative Team + Munny + Oakley Inspiration = Custom Vinyl Goodness.

These are the results of the Oakley Munny Challenge. A project given to my Web Creative team by my Director of User Experience, Marc Hemeon. He wanted to see how the team would represent “what Oakley means to me.”

View that slideshow in full screen mode for best results.

I won’t get into the details of what each one means, but I will say that my favorite concept of the bunch is the Monster Dog / Monster Pup diorama. If you know anything about Oakley, those are the names of two of our sunglass styles, plus, the art was inspired by some original illustrations previously made for our Legal Enforcement team. Pretty amazing job with Sculpey too. Look at those ears, tail, and Oakley Ellipse!! (not to mention the fire hydrant)

A few other noteworthy items:

  • Two of the designs sport removable, custom-made helmets. What am I saying…everything here is custom made.
  • Can you spot the one inspired by The Grip?
  • Jet-pack-wearing dude has a cigar that actually lights up.
  • Crash Test Munny comes with his very own display case.
  • Car wax sure gives one of these that extra bit of shine.
  • Can you name all of the Oakley products being worn by 80/20?
  • Last but not least, I think Steampunk Munny photographed the best so I just had to take a few extra shots of it.

I’m thoroughly impressed with the effort the team put into this. It was all done on their own time. Although this was just project for my Creative team, the rest of my Web team brings just as much passion to their work daily. Follow them on Twitter.

Had 90 min to kill before heading to airport so I took some pics at the top of the Empire State building.

You can barely see the Statue of Liberty in one of these pics. Easier to make out are Central Park and the Chrysler Building. I zoomed in to Central Park using the new digital zoom feature on iOS4 but as you can see, the quality isnt great on the 3Gs camera.

Seeing the Chrysler Building reminded me of the VERY OLD photo shoot I did for Goodwill Games back in 1998 with a diver jumping off one of the eagles.

BBQ-ing boneless Bulgogi from Trader Joe's.

This stuff is pretty good. Not as good as the one with the bones, but Trader Joe's was out of it when I went shopping.

Making up for the lack of a decent lunch :9

*EDIT* I’ve been informed by one of my Korean friends that this is actually Kalbi. Bulgogi is loose meat.

The boy wins a big Domokun at the #ocfair (and other Fair goodness)

We got to the fair in the morning so it wasn’t super crowded yet. Due to the lack of attendees, it was pretty easy to win big prizes by playing games multiple times. The Domo was so big it took up the whole front seat of my car going home.

With all the stuff we got it wasn’t easy to eat anything so we just got some Australian Battered Potatoes with Ranch and Cheese. They were good, but way too greasy to finish.

There was an Ice Museum that had some pretty cool ice sculptures too., and next to that was a food museum with scupltures made of food, including a Mona Lisa made from pasta. The chocolate eagle was pretty amazing.

Can’t leave the Fair without some sort of snack, so we ended the trip with some shaved ice.

Taiwanese news animation of the iPhone 4 antenna saga…and more awesomeness.

This is awesome beyond belief. I remember seeing one of these from the same Taiwanese news channel earlier, but it wasn't good enough to post at the time. This one, however, deserves to be kept here for all prosperity.

There are so many reasons why this video is so great, but beyond the obvious, one of my favorite parts is the sign outside the store at :13. You can't miss it.

First teaser of BMW 1 Series M Coupe (via @markjardine)

I just registered for a test drive. Not that I plan on getting one or anything…already more than happy with my M3, but I’d still love to take one out for a spin. Wonder how long it will take before it hits North America. I have “goose pimples” just thinking about it, LOL. Watch the video.
